The assimilation of problematic experiences in the context of a therapeutic failure

2006

Abstract A negative case–a therapeutic dropout–was analyzed with the Assimilation of Problematic Experiences Scale (APES). The APES has been devised from the assimilation model developed by Stiles and colleagues, and it has proven useful for describing the process of change. The APES describes assimilation as a sequence of eight stages which range from an experience being warded off, through being avoided, in vague awareness, then clarified, understood and solutions applied and finally, resolved and integrated into the self. The current study focuses on the case of Ana, who was being treated for reactive depression in five sessions of linguistic therapy of evaluation. The aims of this study…

Noninfectious uveitis: strategies to optimize treatment compliance and adherence.

2015

Noninfectious uveitis includes a heterogenous group of sight-threatening ocular and systemic disorders. Significant progress has been made in the treatment of noninfectious uveitis in recent years, particularly with regard to the effective use of corticosteroids and non-corticosteroid immunosuppressive drugs, including biologic agents. All of these therapeutic approaches are limited, however, by any given patient's ability to comply with and adhere to their prescribed treatment. In fact, compliance and adherence are among the most important patient-related determinants of treatment success. We discuss strategies to optimize compliance and adherence.

A3- and A2B-nitrocorroles: synthesis and antiviral activity evaluation against human cytomegalovirus infection

2020

Human cytomegalovirus (hCMV) is responsible for several pathologies impacting immunocompromised patients and can trigger life-threatening infection. Several antivirals are available and are used in the clinic, but hCMV resistant strains have appeared and patients have encountered therapeutic failure. Hence, there is a constant need for new best in class or first in class antiviral molecules. We have previously shown that nitrocorroles could be used as a potent anti-hCMV agent without acute toxicity in mice. They therefore represent an excellent platform to perform structure–activity relationship (SAR) studies and to increase efficiency or reduce toxicity. We have generated original A2B- and…

Prescribing behaviour of practitioners in public and private hospitals in Pakistan evaluated using the World Health Organization (WHO) indicators: A …

2017

Summary Introduction The non-rational use of medicines by medical practitioner in their prescribing practices might lead to therapeutic failure. The aim of this research was to evaluate medical prescriptions and to highlight differences in behaviour between prescribers of public and private hospitals in Karachi (Pakistan). Materials and methods This is a retrospective study conducted between November 2015 to October 2016 in 4 public hospitals and 4 private hospitals in Karachi. A total of 120,096 (n) prescriptions were collected from both public and private hospitals. The data were evaluated with WHO indicators for rational use of medicines.
